Korn proposed to be IMF chief

The editorial pages of both the Japan Times and the South China Morning Post on Saturday had named caretaker Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij as a possible candidate to replace Dominique Strauss-Kahn for the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for "his deep understanding of financial markets."
The nomination of Democrat Party deputy leader Korn's name comes about as the International Monetary Fund's executive board formally begins the process of choosing a new leader to replace Dominique Strauss-Kahn, who resigned amid accusations that he sexually assaulted a hotel maid.
Mr Korn, who was former chairman of JP Morgan Chase (Thailand), said he was flattered to be mentioned, but was committed to help his Democrat Party win the July 3 general election.
The editorial emphasised that a candidate from outside Europe or the US would be preferable and that the world needs an IMF boss who would be open about the realities of the fiscal problems facing the world's major economies.
Moreover, it was mentioned that the position should not be exclusively limited to candidates from the US and the EU as there are many good candidates from Africa, Asia and Latin America, who would be worth testing through a thorough interview. More importantly, candidates from major economies may have to answer to the questions of whether their country's interests conflicts with those of the world and IMF.
Other leaders from developing economies mentioned as possible candidates include Egyptian Mohamed El-Erian of the global investment management firm Pimco, Indian Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Singapore's Tharman Shanmugaratnam. However, it is widely believed that the front runner is French Finance Minister, Christine Lagarde.
Since 1946, the position of Managing Director of the IMF has always been filled by candidates from either the US or the EU.
อย่างนี้เพียงพอให้การยอมรับ รบ. นายอภิสิทธิ์ ต่อไปอีกสัก 2-3 สมัย มั่ยครับ??
